The Relation of Fasting Ketosis in the Rat to the Preceding Diet and the Liver Fat
نویسنده
چکیده
When rats are fasted they develop a ketonemia (ketosis) and frequently it is high enough to produce a measurable ketonuria. The height of the ket.osis is determined by many factors. When the diet is low in choline and in protein, the liver becomes very fatty (1) and the ketonuria on subsequent fasting is much higher (2,3) than it is in animals that have been on the stock diet or other food mixtures with a higher protein content. It seemed reasonable to assume that. the high degree of ketosis during fasting after a low protein intake was incident to the fatty liver. This appeared probable, for ketone bodies arise from the oxidation of fatty acids in the liver, and, during fasting after ordinary diets, fat generally accumulat,es in the liver during the period in which the ketosis is reaching its ultimate level. However, we have been unable to obtain a good correlation between the degree of ketosis and the amount of fat in the liver and have therefore been led to examine some of the dietary factors which determine the extent of the fasting ketosis.

The effect of aerobic exercise on epicardial adipose tissue, insulin resistance, and some liver enzymes in high-fat diet-induced obesity male wistar rat
Background and Aim: Due to the prevalence and socio-economic consequences of obesity in mortality, cardiovascular (CAD) and nonalcoholic fatty liver disease the effectiveness of aerobic exercise on epicardial adipose tissue (EAT), insulin resistance (IR) and some liver enzymes of high-fat diet-induced obesity male wistar rats was investigated. Methods: Thirty-two male Wistar rats with an averag...

Objective(s): The present study was aimed to evaluate the effect of methanolic fruit extract of Momordica cymbalaria (MeMC) against high-fat diet-induced obesity and diabetes in C57BL/7 mice.Materials and Methods: In the present study, six weeks old male C57BL/6 mice were divided into four groups. G-1 and G-2 served as lean control and HFD control, G-3 and G-4 received MeMC 25 and 50 mg/kg, BW ...
متن کاملChanges in Blood Lipids and Enzymatic Reactions in Response to Atorvastatin Administration Following a High-Fat Diet in a NAFLD Rat Model
Background and objectives: Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is a chronic liver disease caused by the accumulation of large amounts of fat in the hepatocytes. Given that atorvastatin is effective for treatment of NAFLD, the present study investigated effects of high-fat/fructose diet (HFFD) with atorvastatin on liver enzymes and lipid profile in a NAFLD rat model. Methods: Thirty-two m...

Introduction: In the present study the effect of chronic maternal high-fat diet consumption on energy homeostasis and glucose metabolism in response to chronic stress was investigated in adult male rats. Materials and Methods: Female rats were divided into two groups of normal and high fat diets. Each group received their diet from 3 weeks before pregnancy until the end of lactation. At 8 weeks...
متن کاملEffect of Kelussia odoratissima Mozaff extract on PNPLA3 gene expression in non-alcoholic fatty liver and control rats
Background and Aims: Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is associated with such symptoms as steatosis, fibrosis, and liver cirrhosis. Kelussia has attracted assiduous attention due to its protective effects on the liver. The PNPLA3 gene is mainly expressed in the liver and plays a major role in the degradation rate of hepatic triglycerides. Therefore, the present study aimed to assess th...
